FAME CAN BE FLEETING

Every generation has its comedian. For my generation? It could be Chevy Chase, Robin Williams, John Candy or maybe even Bill Murray. All the votes aren’t in yet. This game still has a few hands left. \For Gen X? Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell or Adam Sandler, perhaps. Again it’s way too early to call this one. But for my parent’s generation, it was Bob Hope, without question. However, these days, Bob Hope may only be recognized as the name given to the Burbank Airport.

Fame can be fleeting.

Bob Hope had a charming custom of ending his live shows with an expression of gratitude in a song called “Thanks for the Memories”. At one time, it was very famous. To my surprise, Googling “Thanks for the Memories” first brought up an Alternative Rock band called Fall Out Boy and its song called “Thanks for the Memories”. Bob’s song didn’t come up until the 6th listing.

Fame is indeed fleeting.

Fall Out Boy’s song is an ironic rant about a bitter break up. Bob’s is a tribute to his audience who gave him his life and livelihood. What follows is a tribute to our customers who, last year, gave us our life and livelihood.
